What is the abortion debate?

With the dramatic leaking of Justice Alito’s draft opinion overturning Roe v Wade and Planned Parenthood v Casey, the following weeks were about what one would expect. Lots of shouting, lots of name calling, and very little common ground. And for an issue that is so simple (note: simple, not easy) I think many people have forgotten what they are fighting about. (0) In a rational, emotion-free world the pro-choice and pro-life movements would both agree they are trying to answer the same questions. When do we get our rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? We take it for granted that we inherited these rights sometime between when we were conceived and when we die. But resolving the issue of abortion requires we know when they begin. From a legal perspective, federal law levies a $5,000 fine or jail time for the deliberate destruction or disturbance of an eagle egg. (1) There are also cases where assailants who killed pregnant women have been convicted of double homicide....

The Dangers of "Just Build Your Own Country"

First everyone has a legal right to do what they did: Gina Carano had a right to post on her Twitter account. People upset at her post had the right to call for her being fired. Disney had the right to fire her. Disney also has the right to not fire Pedro Pascal (Mr. Mandalorian) and other employees for posting very similar nazi/holocaust content on their own Twitter accounts. (1) People upset at the hypocrisy of Gina’s firing have the right to boycott and #canceldisney .(2) And Ben Shapiro and the Daily Wire have the right to partner with her for their next movie.(3) So all of that is legal and constitutional. And considering none of the actions are mandated by the government I would also claim this is the free market at work. However, free market or not, the fact that this situation happened at all, begs the question: “Where does this end? Leftists told Trump supporters to, “Build your own social media.” When Parler was shut down, they said, “Build your own servers.” Now when Disney ...
